Green Bay Packers\u00a0rookie wideout Savion Williams might be the most versatile player from their 2025 draft class. In his final season at TCU, he played 345 snaps on the perimeter, but his role didn\u2019t stop there \u2014 he also logged 38 snaps from the backfield and another 46 at\u00a0quarterback\u00a0in wildcat looks. That level of flexibility opens up plenty of creative options for Green Bay\u2019s offense and should make them more dangerous.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou love the versatility,\u201d Packers head coach Matt LaFleur\u00a0said\u00a0after the draft. \u201cThe ability to go in there and play wildcat quarterback, get in the backfield and play halfback, or jet sweeps. You just want to find different ways to get him the ball because he\u2019s so big, he\u2019s so powerful, so explosive, and guys just have a tendency to bounce off him. He\u2019s just scratching the surface of the playmaker that he can become.\u201d<\/p>\n
Williams is the type of receiver who can haul in contested catches with ease but sometimes struggles with routine ones. Among 194 FBS wide receivers with at least 10 contested receptions since 2017, he leads all of them in career contested catch rate \u2014 securing 75% of his 50\/50 balls. However, he recorded a career-high eight drops in his final year at TCU, an issue he will need to clean up if he hopes to last in the\u00a0NFL.<\/p>\n
Like with any rookie, there are areas of Williams\u2019 game that need refinement. But even with those concerns, he remains a highly intriguing talent who could help elevate Green Bay\u2019s offense.\u00a0Bruce Feldman of\u00a0The Athletic<\/em>\u00a0loves Williams\u2019 physical traits and even compared him to a former\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0champion and seven-time All-Pro.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a different player from Quentin Johnston. When he learns to run routes, that run after the catch is gonna be crazy,” Feldman wrote.<\/p>\n Cordarrelle Patterson put together an impressive list of accomplishments throughout his NFL career. He was named an All-Pro seven times, selected to four Pro Bowls, led the league in kickoff return yards in both 2019 and 2020, and earned a place on the NFL\u2019s 2010s All-Decade Team.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Minnesota Vikings\u00a0drafted Patterson as a wide receiver in 2013, but he struggled to find consistency during his early seasons in the league. Over time, he reinvented himself into a versatile offensive weapon \u2014 someone who could contribute as a runner, receiver, and return man \u2014 and ultimately carved out a unique role as one of the league\u2019s most dynamic all-around athletes.<\/p>\n Savion Williams should have a long and productive NFL career if he can build a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 even remotely close to Patterson\u2019s. However, to reach that level, he will need to become\u00a0more consistent in catching the football.
