T he Green Bay Packers are looking to make that final push at a championship in 2025, but roster wise they have struggled to find legitimate blue-chip, game-changing talent across the broad scope of the roster.<\/p>\n

And whilst the depth chart as a whole reveals few deficiencies \u2013 with perhaps only corner looking like an area of potential liability, some of the players that Green Bay are paying are perhaps not \u2013 or projected not to \u2013 cut the mustard.<\/p>\n

Bleacher Report\u2019s Gary Davenport went through the most overpaid player at each position in the league, and had not one, but two Packers on the list; at interior offensive line and edge rusher \u2013 Aaron Banks and Rashan Gary.<\/p>\n

Packers\u2019 Recent Acquisition The League\u2019s Most Overpaid IOL \u2013 Davenport<\/h2>\n

\u201cLike Moore, Aaron Banks recently changed teams,\u201d Davenport wrote on Thursday, \u201csigning a four-year, $77 million pact with the Packers several months ago\u2026.Banks is a capable guard who started 43 games over four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. But he barely ranked inside the top 50 at his position in overall grade at Pro Football Focus, and\u00a0PFF\u2019s Mason Cameron\u00a0ranked the 6\u20195\u2033, 325-pounder as the No. 32 guard in the league in 2025.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s the sixth-highest paid player at the position and another example of an average talent being overpaid in free agency by a team in need of help up front.\u201d<\/p>\n

Banks certainly raised eyebrows when he landed a four year deal worth over $19 million per year, given he is yet to be selected to a single Pro Bowl, and has not really earned the title of a top 10 \u2013 let alone borderline top-five guard in the NFL.<\/p>\n

But the Packers like him for his power and physicality, something that has been sorely missing from their teams against and increasingly capable and physically imposing NFC North division.<\/p>\n

And more importantly, they seem him as a strong future investment who projects better than he is at this point in time, something that is buoyed by the fact that he has improved in each of his seasons in the NFL.<\/p>\n

Packers Star Edge Rusher Falls Short Of Expectations<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Davenport also believes that seventh year edge rusher, Rashan Gary is the most overpaid at his position, despite players like Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby earning substantially more at this point in time.<\/p>\n

\u201cRashan Gary ranks ninth among edge-rushers in average annual salary\u2014he inked a four-year, $96 million pact with the Green Bay Packers in 2023.\u201d Davenport wrote, \u201cAdmittedly, there\u2019s more to playing the position than just quarterback sacks\u2014Gary\u2019s acumen against the run helped get him named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

But the 27-year-old is being paid well north of $20 million a season to rush the passer. And while his so-so sack numbers are concerning enough, his drop in pressures is that much more worrisome.<\/p>\n

Gary isn\u2019t the only edge-rusher in the NFL who hasn\u2019t lived up to his contract. But a compelling argument can be made there isn\u2019t a player at the position under more pressure to have a big year in 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gary is a trickier situation, given that he has shown flashes of impressive play \u2013 and indeed made his first Pro Bowl this past season. But generally speaking he still looks like a third or fourth year player looking to make that final leap into the elite tier of pass rushers, something that should be in his wheelhouse given his exceptional physical traits.<\/p>\n

The Packers will be hoping that in Year 7, Green Bay finally gets their money\u2019s worth from the former Michigan star.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
