The 2025 Dallas Cowboys have a lot of high hopes after a busy offseason.<\/p>\n
There’s been concern about contracts, injuries and depth. Some of those concerns have been addressed, with DeMarvion Overshown giving Cowboys fans a bombshell injury update that they’ve been hoping for, along with George Pickens being acquired to help out Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.<\/p>\n
The biggest concern right now, though is the size, or lack thereof, of the defensive front seven. One team insider unfortunately confirmed what Dallas fans have been thinking for a while. Nick Harris from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram <\/em>gave some insight on the team simply needing bigger bodies to compete with opposing run games.<\/p>\n Harris went on 105.3 The Fan to discuss the biggest takeaways from OTAs thus far, as well as Matt Eberflus’ defense. We have already heard from ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky exposing the Cowboys’ biggest flaw, which was how Dallas will contend with opposing offensive lines given their lack of DT depth.<\/p>\n Harris echoed that same point, saying that he’s concerned that Mazi Smith may have already reached his peak. He also praised the way rookie seventh-round pick Jay Toia has been working, but of course, he’s a rookie just looking to make the team and carve out a role.<\/p>\n “With the Cowboys defensive tackle situation, I don’t have a lot of confidence in them right now, I don’t. I think Mazi Smith is what he is at this point…I just don’t know if he’s going to be that 17 game starter for you. Is that Jay Toia out of UCLA? He’s really stepped forward and proved that he’s more valuable than a seventh-round pick. I think they need to add a veteran or two to that room. ”<\/p>\n Nick Harris, Fort Worth Star-Telegram<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n This is a crucial year for Smith to make noise against the run. If he doesn’t, the front office cannot count on Toia to carry the load. A trade or signing a veteran might be necessary as the roster is currently constructed. Many view Lions vet D.J. Reader as an ideal fit, as his size would be a sizable help.<\/p>\n Led by Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley, the Eagles boast the NFL’s premier running game. They still have an elite offensive line and the tush push just got renewed.
