The Dallas Cowboys<\/strong> didn’t draftJoe Milton III<\/strong> with the expectation that he’d immediately challenge for the starting quarterback job. But in just a short time with the team, the former Tennessee Volunteer<\/strong> is already generating buzz – and not just for his cannon of an arm.<\/p>\n Selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Milton<\/strong> came into rookie minicamp as something of a project.<\/p>\n His physical traits, particularly his arm strength, were never in doubt. It’s his consistency, decision-making, and ability to adjust to the pro game that many viewed as developmental hurdles. But based on early impressions, the Cowboys’<\/strong> coaching staff seems optimistic.<\/p>\n Dallas<\/strong> offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer<\/strong> recently shared his thoughts on Milton’s<\/strong> first few days in camp. “He made a throw on the move to the left the other day that was just ridiculous,” Schottenheimer<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n “He’s a bright-eyed guy, he’s got a lot to learn, he’s got a long way to go. That same raw ability is now being refined under the watchful eyes of Schottenheimer<\/strong> and head coach Mike McCarthy.<\/strong><\/p>\n His early success in camp is particularly noteworthy considering how difficult it is for late-round quarterbacks to make a splash. Most are relegated to scout team duties or struggle to stand out amidst limited reps. But Milton<\/strong> is making the most of his opportunity, showing flashes of potential that have Cowboys<\/strong> fans intrigued.<\/p>\n Though he is still behind starter Dak Prescott<\/strong> and backup Cooper Rush<\/strong> on the depth chart, Milton’s<\/strong> long-term ceiling has been a topic of speculation ever since his Pro Day workouts and the NFL Combine.
