A lot of people have goals of going back to finish school once the enter the NFL Draft. Naturally, life gets busy for players once their professional careers begin, so sometimes those plans to finish their education falls to the backburner.<\/p>\n
For Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery, nobody would blame him if he waited until his playing days were over to finish up his degree at Iowa State. Instead, after six successful seasons as a pro, the former Cyclone accomplished his goal. Mike Green of the Forever True ISU blog has the story on Montgomery\u2019s latest success.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cGetting my Iowa State degree was the most important thing I had on my list,\u201d Montgomery said at the Iowa State student-athlete graduation luncheon. \u201cI set a goal I wanted to finish this in the next couple of years, so being able to do that was very important. This was a priority for me. When I got a full-ride scholarship I made a promise to ensure myself to finish. Full-ride scholarships aren\u2019t easy to come by, and I wanted to make sure I was exhausting every opportunity to ensure I would graduate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Montgomery will be 28 when the 2025 season gets underway, which, as crazy as it sounds\u2014is older for an NFL back. Luckily for him, he has the chance to play for something special in Detroit.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoing to the Lions was something I didn\u2019t think I was going to experience in my NFL career,\u201d Montgomery said. \u201cThey were a team that saw something in me. We have such a great group overall and we are ready to take the next step. We are excited for the upcoming season.\u201d<\/p>\n
