But significant modernization is needed to keep pace with newer venues around the league.<\/p>\n
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe presented an amendment to Senate Bill 80. It gets historic significance, as in the Show-Me Sports Investment Act, any MLB or NFL team can apply for a tax-credit program through the Missouri Department of Economic Development. The projects should be at least $500 million related to \u201cthe development, construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, repair, or improvement of any athletic and entertainment facility.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cKansas City strongly supports the legislation presented today by Governor Kehoe,\u201d<\/em> Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas\u2019 office said in a statement. \u201cThe Governor\u2019s legislation will ensure the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs are Kansas City\u2019s teams today and will remain Kansas City\u2019s and Missouri\u2019s teams for generations to come.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n It\u2019s the biggest pitch of Kehoe\u2019s political career. He spent years as a great car salesman, but this isn\u2019t a regular deal. Billions are online, with a 3-decade future associated. KSHB 41<\/em>\u2019s Charlie Keegan had earlier reported that the Missouri Senate session for 2024 ended without any final decision for Bill 80. But if he manages to keep them in Missouri, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid might be thankful to him for years to come.<\/p>\n In April 2024, a Missouri ballot measure aimed at extending a 3\/8th-cent sales tax to help fund a $2 billion redevelopment plan, which included major renovations to Arrowhead and a new ballpark for the Royals, was voted down. The Chiefs\u2019 portion of that deal was around $800 million to $1 billion, mostly targeted toward overhauling concourses, premium seating, and infrastructure. A few days back, Lamar Hunt claimed he could spend around $300 million. So, it gives them a ballpark figure of $800 million \u2013 $1 billion to spend on Arrowhead.<\/p>\n The Chiefs\u2019 proposed renovation plan for Arrowhead includes significant upgrades: a 360-degree upper concourse, expanded video boards, modernized suites, and new club spaces beneath the end zones, inspired by features at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Now, Kansas has to come up with a more premium plan.<\/p>\n Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is moving fast to lure the Chiefs. Last year, an amendment to the STAR Bond program was introduced to give the Chiefs almost $2.5 billion with a 30-year repayment term. Kelly was also excited and said, \u201cThis is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. If we can bring the Chiefs across the border and anchor them in Kansas for the next 50 years, we\u2019re going to do everything we can to make that happen.<\/em>\u201d That\u2019s true.<\/p>\n If she can bring Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid over to Kansas, the sports landscape will change entirely. In a Kansas City Star survey, only 17% of people said they would stop supporting the NFL franchise. 38% of people claimed the relocation will hurt them, but they will not stop supporting them. It\u2019s the war of the sales tactics!<\/p>\n For the Chiefs\u2019 Kingdom, it\u2019s an emotional moment. They are waiting for the final decision.
