Rookie minicamp is always an exciting time for fans, as it&#8217;s the first time they get to see clips of the new draft picks in action. That said, this minicamp also serves as a chance for undrafted players to prove why they deserve spots on a team&#8217;s preseason roster.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\">Over the weekend, that seems to be exactly what happened as one undrafted standout earned a spot on the Chiefs roster. According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, Kansas City signed Carson-Newman safety Major Williams overnight on Monday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Chiefs are signing S Major Williams, per source. He\u2019s an undrafted free agent from Carson-Newman who attended minicamp on a tryout basis. He was one of my two top performers among the tryout candidates. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6umMrDppjV\">https:\/\/t.co\/6umMrDppjV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Derrick (@mattderrick) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattderrick\/status\/1919593881475199262?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"inline-text-3\">Chiefs Sign Undrafted Free Agent Safety Major Williams<\/h2>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\">Williams played three years of football at Division II Carson-Newman. During his time there, he recorded 155 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. Although Williams didn&#8217;t face elite competition in college, his traits and production were enough to earn him a shot in the Chiefs&#8217; rookie minicamp.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\">Clearly, he took full advantage of the opportunity and earned a preseason roster spot. Still, Williams has a long way to go if he wants to earn a chance to make the practice squad. Currently, the Chiefs top four safeties are Jaden Hicks, Bryan Cook, Mike Edwards and Deon Bush.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images2.minutemediacdn.com\/image\/upload\/c_fill,w_1200,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto\/images\/ImagnImages\/mmsport\/220\/01jtkr7a8b84ekf5npwk.jpg\" alt=\"Chiefs Quickly Usher Out 2 Rookies After Minicamp\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\">Then, Kansas City also has rookies Glendon Miller and Will Brooks. Both Miller (Maryland) and Brooks (Tennessee) attended Division I Schools, meaning they are used to a higher level of competition. While the NFL is the toughest level of competition, it&#8217;s easier for Division I athletes to make the jump than it is in Division II.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\">Therefore, Miller or Brooks are more likely to land on the practice squad than Williams.
