The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed Hollywood Brown in the offseason, hoping to get more production from him than they did in 2024. Now, it’s worth noting that Brown was injured for the majority of the 2024 season, and when he did return to the lineup, it was noticeable.<\/p>\n
Re-signing Brown was important because it keeps a familiar weapon on the roster for Patrick Mahomes. Given this team’s lackluster offensive performance in recent years, the more talent for Mahomes to throw to, the better.<\/p>\n
That’s why a recent trade proposal from Sterling Xie of Pro Football Network<\/em> makes zero sense. Xie picked one veteran from each team that could be traded, and for the Chiefs, it was Brown.<\/p>\n “However, Brown will still likely be behind\u00a0Travis Kelce,\u00a0Rashee Rice, and\u00a0Xavier Worthy\u00a0in the pecking order, making it no sure bet that his production rebounds in 2025. With Brown playing on a one-year, $3.5 million deal, that makes him very tradeable if the fit doesn\u2019t work out better in his second season with the Chiefs.”<\/p>\n As mentioned above, Brown’s return is a good thing for a variety of reasons. I mentioned that it’s nice to keep what’s hopefully going to be a key weapon for Mahomes, but another big reason why it was important to bring Brown back is that Rashee Rice is both recovering from injury and facing a suspension that will sideline him for a chunk of games.<\/p>\n Yes, Xavier Worthy is coming off a great back half of the 2024 season, but he struggled in the first half of his rookie campaign. Travis Kelce is a big name for the Chiefs, yet he’s coming off his worst season with Mahomes as his quarterback and isn’t the same guy he once was. That’s what makes the idea of trading Brown even sillier. The Chiefs don’t have enough depth.<\/p>\n Kansas City could add wide receiver help in the draft, but even then, not trading Brown would be the correct move.
