Back in the 2020 Draft, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman dubbed the team’s push to always look for quarterbacks at every level of the roster as the “quarterback factory.”<\/p>\n
While that term didn’t work out so well for Roseman or the Eagles at the time, that doesn’t mean they have stopped doing so alogn the rest of the roster.<\/p>\n
Philadelphia opted to trade away backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns to give former sixth-round pick Tanner McKee a chance to become the team’s immediate backup to Jalen Hurts.<\/p>\n
Now we have learned that the Eagles aren’t simply going to give the backup role to McKee at this time.<\/p>\n
Despite the Dallas Cowboys trading for Patriots backup quarterback Joe Milton, one reporter made it clear the Eagles also had interest.<\/p>\n
“My understanding is since Joe Milton became available at the start of the offseason, teams that showed interest included the Raiders, Eagles, Giants, Steelers and the Cowboys,” FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported Thursday. “The Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source.”<\/p>\n
Dallas gets credit for out-dueling the competition here, giving up a fifth-rounder and getting back a seven for the 6-5, 250-pound candidate to become Dak Prescott’s backup.<\/p>\n
It’s fair to point out that Roseman will call any team about the available price of any one player. That doesn’t come as much of a surprise. And Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated later reported that Dallas was the only team to actually give an offer away.<\/p>\n
“One interesting piece of context-While there were talks with other teams, in the end, the Cowboys’ offer was the only one the Patriots had for QB Joe Milton,” Breer reported. “So they took the bird in the hand, and moved the 2024 sixth-rounder.”<\/p>\n
That doesn’t take away from the fact that the Eagles still called, though.<\/p>\n
Once a Quarterback Factory, always a Quarterback Factory it seems.<\/p>\n
