With the most cap space this offseason, the Patriots have the capabilities to make blockbuster signings or trades to drastically improve their roster. Rumors have already suggested that is the plan for Mike Vrabel and his new coaching staff, who are even planning to utilize their connections to players across the league from where they have previously coached.<\/p>\n
That explains why the idea of trading for Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has been speculated about, as Vrabel was his head coach in Tennessee and he was against the organization trading him back in 2022. It continues to be a hope for Patriots fans to finally see Brown in the team’s uniform since he was expected to be drafted to New England in 2019, but the Eagles have given no indication that they’re willing to part with him just yet.<\/p>\n
Because of that, other options have come up in conversation about who Vrabel and Co. might be interested in trading for, especially on offense. They’re expected to prioritize building a solid team around quarterback Drake Maye, so no player will necessarily be deemed off-limits.<\/p>\n
Since receiver will be a focus, many options have already been made available to trade for, most notably Cooper Kupp and D.K. Metcalf. But another name worth mentioning has reportedly already been discussed within the Patriots.<\/p>\n
The Patriots 2023 offseason was disastrous in many ways. Belichick’s decision to let receiver Jakobi Meyers walk and sign JuJu Smith-Schuster instead became one of the worst moves in franchise history.<\/p>\n
Not only was it a questionable move at the time given how productive Meyers had been since he was signed to the team, but Smith-Schuster went on to have the worst season of his career and eventually be released, while Meyers put together the best performances with the Raiders in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
He spent time with McDaniels as his head coach after working with him in Foxboro and now that the offensive coordinator is back in New England, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston revealed the ongoing belief that they’ll want to bring Meyers back if he’s made available.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndustry sources believe a former (Josh) McDaniels pupil in both New England and Las Vegas, Jakobi Meyers, could also be an option via trade. He\u2019s going into the final year of his deal with the Raiders.”<\/em><\/p>\n Adding Meyers to the offensive lineup would be a great move for the team, especially since he thrived with McDaniels as the play-caller. He has impressed since moving to the AFC West and could continue that trajectory with the Patriots if they acquire him.<\/p>\n Meyers has one year left on his current contract and it would be easy for the Raiders to move on, even more so if they’re hoping to makeover their roster. They’re in a good spot to get one of the best receivers in this year’s draft, which could also give more ammunition to move on from Meyers perhaps a bit sooner than they initially thought.<\/p>\n The Patriots could be the biggest beneficiary of that decision.<\/p>\n The Patriots hope to add a solid playmaking wide receiver to their roster this offseason and Jakobi Meyers might be the right guy for the job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":16852,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-16851","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-new-england-patriots"],"yoast_head":"\n<\/h3>\n
