One of the big question marks hanging over the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason has been the offensive line and what the front will do to fortify Patrick Mahomes’ protection.<\/p>\n
Last season, such was the poor left tackle play by Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia, guard Joe Thuney was pushed out to tackle, and Mike Caliendo stepped in at guard, and it wasn’t good, with the Philadelphia Eagles slicing through the offensive line in the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n
So, what is the way forward? Well, head coach Andy Reid may have just given us a hint at the scouting combine in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n
“Joe’s [Thuney] a natural guard, center,” Reid said. “That’s really what his position was, by the graciousness of his heart, he stepped out and played tackle for us, and what a job he did. But I think move him back inside, and his goes back to what he does best.”<\/p>\n
So there you have it. Thuney will shift back inside.<\/p>\n
Now, what does that mean for the left tackle position?<\/p>\n
After what they saw last year, will the Chiefs be comfortable going with Suamataia and Morris again? We aren’t sure.<\/p>\n
Then there’s free agency, and there are some solid options with Ronnie Stanley, which is an interesting thought. Plus, there’s the draft, and Oregon’s Josh Conerly Jr. has been mocked to the Chiefs by several media outlets.<\/p>\n
Either way, it appears the Chiefs know that Thuney does his best work inside, and now work will begin on figuring out that troublesome left tackle position.<\/p>\n
