With the news of a far higher cap space for the 2025 season than initially anticipated, the Patriots will now have even more to spend on quality free agents or trades to remodel their roster for next season completely. As if they weren’t already stacked to do that with a projected $120 million, they are now expected to have closer to $130 million instead, opening the door for more top-name players to become the next New England Patriot.<\/p>\n
It couldn’t be a better scenario for the Mike Vrabel regime to walk into, even more so by holding the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming draft. They will have their fair share of some of the best talent the league offers, and they might have another name to add to their potential trade target list once free agency begins next month.<\/p>\n
Because the defensive line is expected to be a focus of their improvement efforts, adding a game-changing pass rusher will be a priority. While some of the pending free agents will inevitably garner a lot of attention, with Joey Bosa being a potential late-addition cap casualty, the Patriots will have many players to choose from.<\/p>\n
That list might get longer, too, at least according to the latest chatter from NFL insider Albert Breer, who claims the Cowboys might end up shopping Micah Parsons before having to agree on an extension by next year.<\/p>\n
Among the various tidbits in one of his latest articles, Breer wrote about the ongoing tension between the Cowboys and their star pass rusher stemming from the past season.<\/p>\n
There is an alleged sense that Parsons isn’t exactly thrilled with what’s going on in Dallas and might be looking for a way out, which the Cowboys might entertain given that they will be on the hook for an extension after the 2025 season.<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s been enough noise on Micah Parsons\u2019s relationships inside the Cowboys\u2019 building over the last year to put anyone\u2019s radar up for a trade, with Parsons potentially commanding $40 million per year on a second contract. If you\u2019re willing to pay that, plus high-end picks, for a uniquely talented defensive star \u2026 I\u2019d give Dallas a call.”<\/em><\/p>\n Although the hope is for the new Patriots coaching staff to help turn Keion White into a star, it wouldn’t hurt to add a veteran playmaker like Parsons to the lineup, who could also be a great mentor to the young defensive end. Even if trading for him would be expensive, it’s hard to argue against how much better he would immediately make the defense.<\/p>\n Parsons was drafted by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2021 Draft and has since been a wrecking ball on the defensive line. He has recorded 256 combined tackles, 63 for a loss, 112 quarterback hits, nine passes defended, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries (one of which resulted in a touchdown), and 52.5 sacks.<\/p>\n His production has earned him Pro Bowl honors every season, Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, and First-Team All-Pro recognition, all of which makes it seem outlandish that the Cowboys would even entertain moving on from a player of his caliber.<\/p>\n However, they are historically known for being a cheap franchise that either waits until the very last second to extend a player or does not realize what they had until they’re gone. Given that Parsons is said to be unhappy with his situation, it would be better for Dallas to trade him for some sort of compensation than watch him walk in 2026 for nothing.<\/p>\n That’s where the Patriots could make a blockbuster offer and get the pass rusher of the future on their roster as soon as this offseason.
