Some within the NFL may feel the Cincinnati Bengals have zero chance of figuring out contracts for wide receivers Ja\u2019Marr Chase and Tee Higgins and defensive end Trey Hendrickson.<\/p>\n
But others, such as Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter, believe otherwise.<\/p>\n
Chatting with Kay Adams this week, Carter stressed that the thinks the Bengals will break precedent again in order to make it all work.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe Tee Higgins, they\u2019re going to try to bring them back to Cincinnati,\u201d Carter said.\u201dCincinnati is trying to do things they\u2019ve never done before. They don\u2019t guarantee money in the second year. Joe Burrow\u2019s the only player. So you have to throw away that model because you can\u2019t sign Chase and you can\u2019t sign Higgins without guaranteeing money into the second year. So their business model, they\u2019re gonna have to tear it up for them to be functional because that division is not getting any easier.<\/p>\n
The Bengals have shied away from breaking precedent on their preferred guarantees structure, with Joe Burrow the lone exception.<\/p>\n
That will have to change with Chase and Higgins\u2014and one has to think it will, as they\u2019re extensions of Burrow, in a way. Doing it for them won\u2019t necessarily mean any of the other players expect the same moving forward.<\/p>\n
Chase will reportedly command in the $40 million per year range on his extension. Meanwhile, another report said the Bengals will do everything they can to meet Burrow\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n
All of the above still seems to suggest that the Bengals will find a way to make it all work, proving Carter\u2019s point.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
