<\/p>\nThe Chiefs\u2019 chairman and CEO appeared on NFL Network immediately before Super Bowl week\u2019s \u201cOpening Night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly before the Super Bowl \u201cOpening Night\u201d telecast kicked off on NFL Network, Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt appeared on \u201c<\/em>The Insiders,\u201d taking questions from veteran NFL reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.<\/p>\n As the Chiefs gear up for the NFL\u2019s first \u201cthree-peat\u201d attempt, Hunt noted the job general manager Brett Veach has done replenishing the roster.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, I think you can say a lot of great things about Brett Veach,\u201d said Hunt, \u201cand the job he\u2019s done over the last five or six years at rebuilding the roster every year. This Super Bowl, we\u2019re going to only have five players who were on the team in Super Bowl LIV five years ago, which shows you what an amazing job he\u2019s done of work on the roster.<\/p>\n \u201cThis year, we had a lot of injuries and Brett was able to find guys on the street \u2014 or other team\u2019s rosters \u2014 that would be good fit for what we needed, and he did a magnificent job about plugging the holes and waiting until we got guys healthy. And the great news is we\u2019re going into the Super Bowl with a really healthy roster.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Most importantly, one of those five players is the face of the league, quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Hunt is unconcerned about the star\u2019s somewhat underwhelming statistical season, citing Mahomes\u2019 clutch play over the Chiefs\u2019 two playoff games this postseason.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s true of all the great ones,\u201d Hunt explained, \u201cand it really doesn\u2019t matter what sports we\u2019re talking about \u2014 basketball, football, hockey, baseball. The great ones at the most important moments are at their very best, and Patrick has shown that every year.<\/p>\n \u201cRegardless of his stats in the regular season, he always elevates his game when we get to the playoffs, and he\u2019s definitely done that recently. Hopefully that\u2019ll continue this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n On top of Mahomes, the Chiefs boast Andy Reid, who now boasts a reputation as the league\u2019s top coach after winning three of the last five Super Bowls. Hunt sees the coach he hired 12 years ago as seemingly younger for having worked with the league\u2019s best quarterback.<\/p>\n \u201cI think any head coach who has Mahomes as his quarterback is getting younger and not older,\u201d Hunt remarked. \u201cI think that\u2019s really the key to it. I really think he\u2019s rejuvenated.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s enjoying this part of his career. What a long career he\u2019s had, and we all know where it\u2019s going to end up \u2014 the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
