The Green Bay Packers are trying to show the league that they actually did move on to a third straight franchise quarterback.\u00a0 Green Bay has made the playoffs in each of Jordan Love\u2019s first two seasons starting,\u00a0 Not something every franchise can say when they just traded away a four-time MVP quarterback.<\/p>\n

However, one of their opponents next season may be on the brink of losing a key piece to their offense.<\/p>\n

If a team in the NFL is planning<\/span> to pursue pending unrestricted free agent quarterback Sam Darnold to solve their quarterback issue (which there will be), it will likely cost them a lot of money:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

ESPN\u2019s Jeremy Fowler, who has Darnold\u00a0ranked sixth<\/strong><\/u> in his top 50 pending free agents list. Darnold, according to league executives Fowler has spoken to, could be in line for a contract on par with what Baker Mayfield received from the Bucs:\u00a0a three-year, $100 million pac<\/strong><\/u>t<\/strong><\/u>\u00a0with $50 million in total guarantees and $40 million guaranteed at signing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As far as quarterbacks are concerned, Sam Darnold is the best option available this free agency. The 35 touchdowns he threw in 2024 were tied for the second most in Vikings history and the fifth most in the league this past season. In 2025, he\u2019ll have a strong market and start somewhere<\/p>\n

In terms of free agency negotiations, the Minnesota Vikings retain the advantage until March 10, but Darnold will know his market well before then.<\/p>\n

If Darnold hadn\u2019t tanked the final two games of the campaign, predictions of<\/span> that market would have been significantly higher. Regardless,<\/span> there are grown concerns that Minnesota won\u2019t reup with Darnold.<\/p>\n
