The Patriots have a ton riding on the relationship between quarterback Drake Maye and new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.<\/p>\n

So far, so good.<\/p>\n

Maye and McDaniels haven\u2019t been able to get on the field together just yet, but the former certainly seems to be excited about the prospect of learning from someone with so much experience in New England.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach McDaniels, obviously what he\u2019s done (with the Patriots) and the success he\u2019s had, I\u2019m fortunate to be able to have a guy come in who has done it at a high level and learn from him coaching one of the best ever \u2014 the best ever in my opinion, Tom (Brady),\u201d Maye said on Sirius XM, as transcribed by ESPN\u2019s Mike Reiss. \u201cI have a great chance to go back \u2014 all those years of film he has in the little database, it\u2019s all their play-calls, all Coach McDaniels\u2019 stuff and what he did with Tom. It\u2019s fortunate for me to go back and study it up and get ready for this next season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maye will have to adjust quite a bit in making the shift toward McDaniels, as his scheme historically uses different verbiage than that of former offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. The Patriots will want to pile more on their young quarterback\u2019s plate, which should make things easier on those around him.<\/p>\n

How will that work? It remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
