After a disappointing 7-10 season, the Dallas Cowboys have a lot they need to address in the offseason. While they decided on their head coach and offensive play-caller in Brian Schottenheimer, they have holes in their roster they need to improve if they want to compete with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders in the NFC East next season.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys need more playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. While WR CeeDee Lamb is among the best playmakers in the league, he is just one player. Ever since the team traded Amari Cooper to the Browns, the Cowboys wide receiver room has felt like a one-man show. Look at the Philadelphia Eagles. A.J. Brown is one of the best receivers in the league, yet they still have DeVonta Smith as a second weapon across from him. Let\u2019s not forget that they also have the best running back in the NFL this season in Saquon Barkley in the backfield.<\/p>\n

While Lamb finished the season with 1,194 receiving yards, the second most on the team was only 610 by Jalen Tolbert. Veteran Brandin Cooks is also a free agent this offseason, adding uncertainty to his future in Dallas. All this is to say that the Cowboys need to address wide receiver early in the upcoming draft. Fortunately for them, there are a lot of intriguing prospects who could instantly make an impact on the team.<\/p>\n

The same argument can be made for the running back position. While many fans are pounding the table for Boise State\u2019s Ashton Jeanty in the first round, they could wait until the second round and get an elite talent in either UNC\u2019s Omarion Hampton or one of the Ohio State running backs.<\/p>\n

Knowing that the Cowboys won\u2019t be heavy spenders in free agency, their best opportunity to add elite players at skill positions will be through the draft. They\u2019ve selected offensive and defensive line the last two drafts in the first round, with DT Mazi Smith in 2023 and LT Tyler Guyton in 2024. It\u2019s fair to say those picks haven\u2019t lived up to expectations so far. Regardless of which is taken in the first or the second, running back and wide receiver should be the team\u2019s first two draft picks in April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
