The Texans just made the wrong kind of NFL Playoffs history | SB Nation<\/p>\n

For the Texans, their flight home will be filled with thoughts of \u201cwhat if.\u201d Kicker Kai\u2019mi Fairbairn missed one field goal, had another blocked, and missed an extra point in the loss. Houston also outgained the Chiefs 336-212, had 18 first downs to Kansas City\u2019s 12, won the time of possession battle 33:26 to 26:34, and did not turn the football over.<\/p>\n

Usually when you accomplish things like that in an NFL Playoff game, you come away with a victory. But not the Texans today.<\/p>\n

In fact, Houston became the first team in NFL Playoff history to outgain their opponent by 100 yards or more, not turn the football over, and lose the game. According to Benjamin Solak of ESPN<\/em>, only the Texans have done that in the playoffs and lost.<\/p>\n

The other 49 teams to outgain their opponents by 100 yards or more and not turn the football over all won their playoff games:<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Per @ESPNStatsInfo<\/a>, the Texans are the first team to out-gain their opponent by 100+ yards (336-212), not turn the ball over, and lose a postseason game.<\/p>\n

Previous such teams were 49-0 in the playoffs.<\/p>\n
